The Professor

On our honeymoon we watched a show called 'And 1'
about street ball. One of our favorite players was this
skinny white kid nicknamed "the professor."
(pronounced the professa)

Here's 'the professa' in his new office
Veni, veni, canta conmigo . . .
Vamos, vamos, Argentina!
The source of Don Wade's madness.
El Quixote.

That, my friend, is an amazing painting. The kind of painting you can design an office around.

It truly is a remarkable painting. It does not get old whatsoever. Although that particular work is not in my office, DQ is well represented. I even have some dirt from La Mancha. In fact, by the looks of my office, you would think that I had designed a DQ shrine . . . "and what," I ask, "is wrong with that?"

The word "professor" brings a lot of wonderful things to mind. I have certainly had my share of amazing professors. When I hear someone say professor, however, two voices stand out. Emily already described one of them: I hear the MC from the "And 1" street ball program calling out "the professa" in a way that only he can. I also hear a lovely little lyric that asks, "Professor, what's another word for pirate treasure?" But who, may I ask, in the blogosphere knows both the answer to the question and the group who put it to music?

You'll be happy to know I have that little gem enshrined forever in my eternal book of poems.

Nice guess work, Olivia. It is indeed the Beastie Boys. As for you, Matt, I knew you'd come through. No eternal book of poems would be complete without it.

I remember my first office. It had a beautiful view of the Sandía mountains. I decorated my first office door at BYU with a collage of pictures of Spanish women writers. Dale added Lucy (the australopithecus). It was when we were just friends, but it make me fall in love with him all over again just to think about it.
