olivia . . . world's best stylist

With the help of Olivia,
Jon bought me the sweetest flat iron
for my 30th birthday.
Then, only weeks before the big day,
I cut off all my hair!
Well, this is my first attempt at using the
ghd on my short do. Props to Olivia for a fabulous cut.

A bit of inspiration

Raleigh has quite a few homeless men and women
who stand at the freeway entrances.
I always have this uneasy feeling when I stop
like I don't want to make eye contact with
them because I really want to help, but don't think
giving them the $0.55 I have in the car will.
So, I've decided to give a little 'sack lunch' instead of money
I figure, who wouldn't be happy for
this food and a pass along card and
a wonderful quote about being a child of God?
(Olivia, Alexis, Colton and I had a great experience
with a man outside the Temple. He asked for spare change
we told him we didn't have any, but he could have our Sobe.
He goes, "Ya dude, I love Sobes." It made our day to say the least.) Raleigh 1st ward - Book Club
Les Miserables
I don't know why but I just love
the sight our our two 'boots.'
that's true love

a few of my favorites . . .

This is my favorite house in our neighborhood.
I love the hanging plants
and the little planter under the window
and the ivy around the window
and the porch
and and and. . .

When Olivia and my parents visited us in Nashville
we had a fun conversation about our dream vehicles.
Mine is an 89,90,or 91 Toyota LandCruiser.
Can you imagine my surprise when Jon bought this
beauty for me for my 30th birthday!!!
Yeah right, but this sweet ride does belongs to
our next door neighbor Will.
Lucky.
I love it.

Love this kid

Living so far away from home, you'd think I'd get used
to being away from my family. Alexis went into
the MTC last week and I already really miss her.
She's about as good as it gets.

The Professor

On our honeymoon we watched a show called 'And 1'
about street ball. One of our favorite players was this
skinny white kid nicknamed "the professor."
(pronounced the professa)

Here's 'the professa' in his new office
Veni, veni, canta conmigo . . .
Vamos, vamos, Argentina!
The source of Don Wade's madness.
El Quixote.

Mi casa es su casa

This is hanging in our spare room.
Although sometimes I doubt, I know it's true.

Our spare room

the living room

Same old hand-me-down furniture in a new space!
We live 2-3 miles from Meredith in a little condo perfectly situated right off the freeway...15 minutes from the airport, 15 minutes from church, and 20 minutes from the Temple.
Oh yeah, and a 5 minute walk from my new favorite store, Tuesday Mornings!

N to the C

What a wonderful world.

When we moved to Nashville, lots of people told us how
beautiful 'middle Tennessee' was.
It was.
Then when we found out we were moving to Raleigh, again, tons of
people told us how beautiful NC was.
You guessed it, it is.

This is the little trail I take to get to Meredith.

I love the flowering trees. Lots of color and blossoms coming out of nowhere.

My friend, Susan E, told me I'm living in God's country.

Who would have known.

It's official!

From the "Acknowledgments" page of my dissertation (which arrived in the mail today!):

"Celestial hands have carried me past the doubts, discouragement, and distractions that held me back during graduate school. I thank Them for everything I have and am.

"I cannot begin to imagine these years without my dear wife, Emily. With all the ups and downs, she never doubted. I have reached these heights, and will yet achieve others, because we fly together. I know that she will always be by my side, and I by hers.

"Although he passed away almost fourteen years ago, dad continues to inspire me to excellence. I am happy to carry his example into the next generation. Mom remains the constant force for good that she has always been. I am grateful for her tireless love and kindness. I also want to recognize my brother, Rob, who has always been one of my biggest fans. I thank him for always caring. To the rest of my large family of Wades, Redds, and the like, thank you for your love, friendship, and support.

"Few graduate students ever get to work with anyone as brilliant and kind as Edward Friedman. I consider myself privileged to be called one of his students, and feel honored to call him my mentor. I also recognize Dale, Valerie, Kit, and Earl, whose past and present mentoring have made all of this possible. Not to be forgotten is Dave, my academic big brother, and Ted, who started me on this journey years ago.

"I conclude by expressing gratitude to Vanderbilt University, which has been very good to me. I thank the College of Arts and Science, the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, and, especially, the Robert Penn Warren Center for the Humanities for their generous support and encouragement."
